SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A first-ever music concert in Springfield has raised thousands of dollars for the Open Pantry this season.
The " Jam-4-Springfield " event took place at the Paramount Theater on earlier this month, but on Wednesday, a $10,000 check was presented to the Open Pantry at the annual Rock 102 Mayflower Marathon.
The event's organizer, Peter Newland, the frontman of the local 70's band " FAT", said he wanted to help out the food pantry after hearing how the need for food in this area increased dramatically.
“I was looking for something to sort of connect my passion for my music and my love for the city, with a way to give back,” Newland said. “And it happened at a good time, because they can use this help now more than ever.”
Proceeds from this event helped contributed to the record-breaking $102,000 raised at this year's Mayflower Marathon.
