SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Five young Springfield women are a step closer to being crowned Colleen for this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The Springfield St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee held their preliminary contest Saturday night at the John Boyle O'Reilly Club Hall. Three judges select five finalists, then the winner will be selected on February 9th. The president told 22News what it takes to be crowned Colleen.
“We're looking for a young woman whose very proud of her Irish heritage as well as the city of Springfield, is involved in the community and is looking to be a role model for younger girls,” said Tom Sullivan.
For the first time in several years, the Holyoke St. Patrick's Day Parade will fall on the day St. Patrick's Day is observed, Sunday March 17th.
