Jury being chosen in second trial for Charles Wilhite

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A second trial for Charles Wilhite is underway at Hampden Superior Court in Springfield, with jury selection beginning Monday.

Wilhite was convicted of murder for the October 2008 killing of Alberto Rodriguez outside the Pine Street market. The conviction was controversial, with Wilhite and his family maintaining his innocence, and supporters holding protests.

Last year, a judge granted him a new trial after two key prosecution witnesses recanted their statements. The judge found that there was also not enough physical evidence linking Wilhite to the crime.
