SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - With a new year, comes new resolutions.  22News is working for you with ways to actually keep them this year.
Quitting smoking, losing weight, going to the gym, finding a better job or just putting down that cell phone for one minute... just one minute a day.  Those are some of the top resolutions for 2013.  Making a resolution is easy, keeping them is the hard part.

Last year I made a new year's resolution to completely stop smoking.  I was smoking 20 cigarettes a day,
I got down to five, this year I'm done", says Springfield's Tammy Tudryn.

Whatever your resolution may be; the best way to keep them in 2013 is to have a plan before you start.

"My resolution is too lose some weight.  My plan is to get a gym membership", says East Longmeadow's John Polchloeek.

A lot of people have that same plan.  They pack the gym through January or February then don't go again.

"A lot of people think they need to come to the gym, 5-7 days a week to get results, what's more important
is having a number of days in mind that you can do consistently", says Best Fitness Personal Training Manager Jon Bukolsky.

Bukolsky told 22News going three days a week is a good start.  And if you stick it out, you'll see results sooner than later.

"A lot of people do have very busy schedules coming in three days a week, doing an effective
30 minute workout. That can get results right there", says Bukolsky.

Bukolsky says you can start seeing some results in as little as two to four weeks.
