SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man accused of robbing the same Springfield bank branch twice back in 2009 was arrested inside a house’s attic Wednesday morning.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that evidence gathered in the police department’s investigation led them to suspect that 45 year-old Kenneth G. Bolden of Springfield was the one who robbed the TD Banknorth branch at 551 Sumner Avenue on April 29 and September 26 2009.
In both robberies, the suspect was described as a black man in his 40’s wearing a hooded sweatshirt, dark glasses, and rubber gloves. Delaney says both times he handed the teller a note demanding cash and stating that he was armed.
Following one of the robberies, the suspect’s sweatshirt and sunglasses were recovered by police.
Delaney says that DNA profile evidence and help from the public led detectives to Bolden, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Delaney says that around 6:15 Wednesday morning, detectives found Bolden “hiding out” in the attic of a home on Clifton Avenue.
Bolden will be arraigned Wednesday in Springfield District Court on the warrants for armed robbery while masked and assault with a dangerous weapon.
In June of 2011, Bolden was arrested for allegedly breaking into a tornado-damaged home on Spruce Street
