WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Westfield family is keeping their son's memory alive and helping other athletes through a hockey tournament this weekend.
Some 400 hockey players on 20 teams will compete in the second annual Kevin J Major Memorial Hockey tournament at Amelia Park Ice Arena. The event raises money for athletic scholarships for young athletes, and also promotes awareness of the heart condition that took the life of Kevin Major.
“When Kev passed away, it was a part of the world we've always been a part of. I said to myself if I can't help Kevin I'd like to help those that are less fortunate; that would love to be on the field, that have the skill to be on the field but they just don't have the financial,” said Kevin’s dad, Pat Major.
The tournament starts Thursday and runs all weekend. For more information or to learn how you could help the Kevin Major Foundation, visit www.KevinMajorFoundation.com
