HAMPDEN, Mass. (WWLP) - A family of four was able to escape their burning home in Hampden.

22News can now confirm that it was a lawnmower in the garage that started a fire that severely damaged a home on South Ridge Road Wednesday evening.

That's according to Hampden Fire Dispatcher Lauer.

One entire side of the home was charred by the intense flames.

Firefighters had to break the windows in order to vent the smoke.
