SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - In honor of Black History Month, the Pan African Historical Museum at Springfield's Tower Square is paying tribute to Chef Edna Lewis.

Lewis, the granddaughter of freed slaves, was considered the Grande Dame of Southern Cooking. The museum honored the renowned chef by hosting a special public cooking demonstration and food tasting.

“Edna Lewis wanted to preserve the tradition of African-American cooking, and today we have Lily Moralez who is a cook at the New Hope Church of God in Christ, and she's saluting Edna today,” said LuJuana Hood, Executive Director of PAHMUSA

Lewis passed away in 2006 at the age of 89.
