HUNTINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Our roads look a little lighter this winter with much less salt and sand needed to treat wintry conditions.
At the DPW in Huntington they have their salt and sand piles ready to treat snow should it arrive, but they really haven't had to use it that much this winter.
"Usually when we fill up our shed here in the fall and as the winter goes like last year we're getting several loads of sand and salt on a weekly basis. But with this stretch of winter that we've had lately we haven't had to use that much," said Kenneth Wickland, DPW.
In all, about 150 to 200 tons of sand and two trailer loads of salt sit and wait for the next winter storm, completely opposite to how it was last year.
