SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Lightning strikes from Monday morning's storm appears to have touched off several fires in western Massachusetts, including one at a historic home on Dartmouth Street in the city’s McKnight neighborhood.

Springfield Fire Deputy of Operations Glenn Guyer told 22News that they are fairly sure that lightning was the cause of a fire at 53 Dartmouth Street Monday morning, though they are still investigating.

According to Guyer, around 8:30, a resident of the home heard a loud bang and saw a flash. Then, going up to the attic, saw heavy smoke and called 9-1-1.

The fire department was able to get the fire under control quickly, and no one was injured.

The fire clearly damaged part of the home’s roof, but Guyer says that the full extent of the damage is not clear at this time.

Lightning also struck a home on Pinewood Drive in Longmeadow Monday morning, but the house did not sustain great damage.
