AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Yet another reminder of the dangers of cloud to ground lightning.
An Agawam couple's home caught fire after lightning struck a tree in their backyard around 5:15 Sunday evening.
Agawam Fire Lieutenant B.J. Calvi told 22News the lightning bolt "jumped" from the tree to the ranch style home at 94 Raymond Circle, causing a fire in the roof.
Firefighters were able to put the flames out quickly but not before roughly $15,000 in damage was done to the home.
The two elderly residents were home at the time but were not injured.
They've been moved to a hotel until their home is inspected.
