LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Monday morning, many parts of western Massachusetts experienced strong thunderstorms. In fact, the storms were so powerful that a bolt of lightning struck a house in Longmeadow.

Firefighters were called to a home on Pinewood Drive, just before 9:00 A.M. Homeowner, Karen Mernoff told 22News that she saw it happen right before her very eyes.

“All of a sudden we saw a huge flash, bang, hit the house,” Karen said. “We were afraid that the electricity was hit and the fire was in the house. So we called the Longmeadow Fire Department.”

“It's hard to be prepared for something like that,” David said. “It's very capricious, but if it happens, we'll call the fire department again.”

Firefighters thoroughly checked the Mernoff family's home to make sure there was no fire.

No one was injured.
