WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A peaceful and solemn community event in Westfield Monday night.

There were hundreds of bags illuminated with candles and names of cancer patients  written on them at the Genesis Spiritual Life Center.

This is the 16th year of the Cancer House of Hope's, "Luminaria, Lights of Hope" event.  At five dollars per bag, it's considered  an affordable way for people to honor their loved ones who've had cancer.

"It really has a lot of meaning.  People take it personally.  And I can totally understand why.  It means a lot to them to honor their loved ones and come out here tonight, and be peaceful and  be with people who understand," said Susan Innarelli, a 2-Time cancer survivor from Westfield, who has volunteered for all 16 annual "Lights of Hope" events.

After the event, people can bring their bags home and re-light them for the holidays.

The money goes to support Cancer House of Hope programs which are provided free of charge to cancer patients and their families.  Among the services provided are bereavement support, Yoga and Reiki.
