SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The weather may have made Thursday the right night for some indoor trick or treating.

Children of all ages put on their Halloween costumes and crowded the Eastfield Mall for their annual Mall-O-Ween extravaganza.

The kids went from store to store, collecting candy.

Parents told 22News trick or treating inside is a safe alternative to going door to door Monday night.

"The weather for one thing, it's snowing right now and we don't have to worry about the cars. It's very safe in here and a lot of candy, lot of different shops so it's better than going door to door, go to store to store," Matthew Smith of Palmer said.

"It's fun for the kids, it's safe, it's warm in here which is great because it's super cold outside. I have a two year old so you know, you gotta keep them warm," said Anna Ortiz.

Thursday's event also featured a costume contest. Winners from each age group won an Eastfield Mall gift card.
