SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Detective Bureau is investigating a late night shooting in the city. One man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Just after 10:00 P.M. Thursday, a Springfield Police Officer who was on patrol heard gun shots.
He responded to the area of 17 Whittier Street and found a man with a gunshot would to the head.
Captain William Collins of Springfield Police Department did tell 22News that the victim, who was shot in the head, was taken to Baystate Medical Center. At this time, that is all police have revealed.
22News has been calling the Detective Bureau asking them if this man is still alive and if they have any suspects. All they are saying right now is that they are investigating.
If you have any information that can help police, call the Detective Bureau at 787-6355 or you can anonymously text a tip.
The incident comes as police patrols have been stepped up in the area. In fact, it was less than two weeks ago when Springfield Police deployed their new B.A.D.G.E. task force: a group of officers whose sole assignment is to patrol this area of the city.
