SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One person was injured late Sunday night when a car hit a house in Springfield's Liberty Heights section.

22News cameras got there as the silver Dodge Neon was being removed from the house at 230 Cuff Avenue, leaving a gaping hole.

The crash was reported at 11:45 Sunday night. According to Dennis Leger, aide to the fire Commissioner, the car caught fire after crashing. The impact awakened the homeowner Eric Gallant and his wife, who then pulled the driver out of the burning vehicle.

Springfield Police Lieutenant James Rosso told 22News that the unidentified driver was taken to Baystate Medical Center, he is expected to survive.

Leger says before striking the house, the car plowed through a fence on nearby St. James Avenue.
