SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man was rescued from his burning home Thursday night by a complete stranger. It happened just after 10:00 Thursday night at 9 Ludlow Avenue in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield.

Aide to the Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News that the fire started in the basement, and a man inside got trapped.

A patron of the nearby Regal Beagle bar saw the fire, and ran over to help. He broke a window and pulled the man out.

The trapped man had inhaled some smoke and was burned, though he is expected to recover.

A total of three people live in the home. The other two made it out safely.

There is no word at this time on what caused the fire.
