SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police are searching for suspects after a man was shot twice in the back.

Springfield Police Lt. John Bobianski told 22News the 37-year old city resident was shot twice outside 93 Fernwold Street in the city's East Springfield section around 5:00 Tuesday evening.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

Lt. Bobianski told 22News the victim claimed he was walking his dog when he was struck.  Lt. Bobianski said the man is not being cooperative with police.  No arrests have been made.

The shooting happened just an hour and a half before a meeting with the city's police department and the Springfield ClergyReverend Talbert Swan called the meeting to discuss the ongoing gun violence in the city.
