Man survives cancer three times

SOUTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A Southampton cancer survivor is celebrating his life after surviving cancer three times.

Steve Wozinake is celebrating life, surrounded with friends, family and supporters at his 4th annual Dana-Farber Fundraiser.

To honor those who helped him in his fight against cancer after being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer 8 years ago.

“It wasn't a good day. You Overcome stuff like that and I am still here today and I appreciate that,” Wozinake said.

His sister, Denise Carney told 22News, His treatment choices were limited and according to doctors so was his time on earth.

“Five day treatments, twice and the cancer always came back three months later. It always came back,” Carney said.

So after his third occurrence, when traditional treatments failed, Steve decided to take matters into his own hands and go to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute where they focus on an alternative route to fight cancer.

“This event is designed to support experimental treatments. These noval drug treatments are developed for cancer patients when the standard drugs have failed,” Dr. Geoffrey Shapiro said.

“There are a lot of failures in oncology and cancer care and to have a fabulous success rate like this is inspiring and motivating,” Dr. Phillip Glynn said.

“Positive attitude is a big part of being a survivor. The mind is a powerful thing,” Wozinake said.
