SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - 24 year old Edwin Perez of Springfield allegedly threw an infant to the ground, pulled a gun on police, ran away and then fought with an officer before being arrested.

State Police told 22News it was just before 8:00PM Tuesday when they got a call about a man with a gun on Plainfield Street.

Police found Perez sitting in a chair; holding a baby.

When the officers approached Perez, he allegedly tossed the baby on the ground, pulled out a gun and started to run.

Officers were able to chase him down and after a violent struggle, put him in handcuffs.

State Police say the gun he was carrying was a loaded 9-mm Smith & Wesson, which was stolen from Hartford, Connecticut.

The baby was taken to Mercy Medical Center, but is expected to be okay.

Perez is facing weapons charges, as well as assault and battery on an officer. According to the State Police, they are also investigating the possibility of charging him with assault and battery on the baby.
