Man wanted in connection with drug raid arrested by Springfield police

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Following a city-wide manhunt, Springfield police have arrested a man wanted since a drug raid on a home in the McKnight section on Tuesday.

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Hector Nieves, 31, was arrested during the day on Friday.

Officers had been looking for Nieves since Tuesday afternoon, when the suspect’s home at 287 St. James Avenue was raided. Inside, police allegedly found 88 bags of heroin, 5 grams of pure heroin, 16 oxycodone pills, 10 suboxone pills, 8 grams of crack cocaine, three loaded handguns, and 100 rounds of ammunition.

Five people, including three young teens, were arrested during the raid, though they are all facing lesser charges.

Nieves is being charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of a firearm without a license, three counts of distribution of cocaine, four counts of distribution of heroin, and possession of a firearm during a felony.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court.
