Douglas Morse, man wanted in connection with Longmeadow bank robbery, is Holyoke mayor's brother

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Douglas Morse, the man who is wanted for allegedly being the getaway driver during a Longmeadow bank robbery, is the brother of Holyoke’s mayor.

The office of Mayor Alex Morse confirmed for 22News that the 32 year-old Douglas Morse of Westfield wanted by Longmeadow police is in fact the mayor’s brother.

According to Longmeadow Police Capt. John Stankiewicz on March 24, Desiree Ferreira allegedly entered the Berkshire Bank branch on Longmeadow Street and handed the teller a note demanding cash. She then allegedly left the bank with money and made a getaway in a gray sedan driven by a man who was determined to be Morse.

There is a warrant out for Morse’s arrest.

Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse released the following statement to 22News:

"As I have previously stated, my brother Doug has struggled with addiction his entire adult life. I know that good people can do bad things when overtaken by substance abuse. I will continue to be there for my brother, but I also recognize that his actions are out of my control. I want to thank the countless people who have reached out and offered their support to me and my family, and I thank you in advance for continuing to respect our privacy during this difficult time".

Ferreira, the alleged robber, turned herself in to Longmeadow Police on Monday night.

In March, Morse was arrested on drug and traffic charges , after Northampton police say he allegedly ran a stop sign and and almost hit a police cruiser.
