Manhunt underway in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - There's a manhunt underway in Chicopee and you can help detectives find the man their looking for.

They’re looking for the man who allegedly bludgeoned the 57 year old woman who works by the Dugout Cafe in the Willimansett section of the city.

Detective James Tisdell told 22News, the man attacked the woman with a hatchet and hit her over the head half a dozen times with the blunt side of the ax.

In spite of losing a lot of blood, the woman fought off her assailant, who was reportedly trying to rob the restaurant.

The woman just needed to be treated in the Baystate Medical Center emergency room.

Chicopee Detectives are looking for a white man, about 5',8" of average build. He was wearing a gray hoodie.
