SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man who allegedly pointed a fully-loaded handgun at an officer was arrested by Springfield Police early Thursday morning.
Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Marcquel Robinson, 19, of Springfield is now facing several charges, assault with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
According to Delaney, around 1:00 A.M. patrolling police officers noticed a suspicious person (later identified as Robinson) outside the Milton Bradley School. As the officers got closer, Robinson ran. Police were able to catch up with him on Temple Street, where he was trying to climb up a snowbank.
It was then that Delaney says Robinson pulled a .380 semi-automatic handgun out of his pocket and pointed it right at one of the officers. The officer was so close to Robinson and didn’t have time to pull out his own gun, so he tackled Robinson, knocking the gun from his hand.
Delaney says officers struggled to get Robinson under control, but they managed to arrest him. They found the gun was fully loaded, and later discovered that it was reported stolen during a home break-in in Philadelphia.
Robinson will be arraigned Thursday in Springfield District Court.
