Mass. Board of Education approves new Spfld. charter school

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Massachusetts Board of Education has approved a new charter school for Springfield.

The Phoenix Academy Public Charter High School will open in Springfield in the fall of 2014.

The board says the school will enroll 250 students in grades 9-12 when it reaches its full capacity.

The board also approved the expansion of two existing charter schools in Western Massachusetts, the Four Rivers Charter Public School in Greenfield and the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Hadley.
