SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - For the second month in a row, Massachusetts lost thousands of jobs in the leisure and hospitality industry.

2,100 jobs were cut from this sector in June. 2,300 were lost in May.

Now many restaurant owners are renewing the call for a tax-free holiday.

The owner of the Student Prince in Springfield told 22News the restaurant biz should be able to benefit form that annual sales boost just like the retail sector does.

Rudi Scherff said, “Those of us in the restaurant business, we work so hard. We provide so many jobs. Just treat us the way you treat everyone else. We're not asking for anything special. Just give us a tax holiday.”

There are roughly 300,000 hospitality workers employed in Massachusetts.
