SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Several Springfield police officers and a state police trooper will be honored Thursday night for their role in capturing escaped convict and accused murderer Tamik Kirkland.

Kirkland was shot by police April 30th after he opened fire at a Springfield barber shop, killing a customer and wounding the barber.

A Springfield Police Officer and State Trooper were both wounded during a shootout with Kirkland.

The officers involved in Kirkland's arrest will be honored at a Medal of Honor Ceremony Thursday night at Central High School at 6pm. The public is invited to attend.
