LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A Longmeadow homeowner was startled to come home and find two men trying to pry open a large safe in her basement.
Police Capt. John Stankiewicz told 22News that around 9:00 Friday morning, the woman, who had been out of the house, returned to her Woodsley Road home to find two men in her basement trying to open a large safe. The startled homeowner had a brief conversation with the suspects before running away and calling police.
The two got then into their green pickup truck with an extended cab and drove away before police could arrive.
Stankiewicz says that police are following leads, but there is no description of the suspects at this time. Police believe they got into the house by forcing open the bulkhead door.
Capt. Stankiewicz says that police suspect that before attempting to pry it open, the two tried to move the safe. Due to its size and weight, however, they were unable to do so.
