SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - MGM will open an office at 1441 Main Street in Springfield.

The company is trying to persuade the gaming commission and residents that they should be able to build a resort casino in the South End.

There's a billboard off the highway, commercials on TV, a website on the internet , and now, an office on Main Street.

It's MGM's first physical presence in the city.

It's not uncommon for a company to do this.

Mohegan Sun has an office on Main Street in Palmer where they are also trying to establish a community presence.

Before a casino license is issued, the proposal has to pass a referendum vote in the community.

So far, MGM and Ameristar have both laid out proposal for Springfield.

Penn National Gaming and Hard Rock have also expressed interest.

They need to outline proposals and have them submitted to the city by the end of October.

MGM's plan is to build just off I-91 on Main Street from State to Union.

MGM is doing everything it can to posture itself. They donated money to the South End Community Center, Springfield's 4th of July celebration, and most recently, partnered with the Springfield Falcons Hockey Team.
