SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - MGM Resorts is investing more money in the city of Springfield.

On Thursday, MGM Springfield President Bill Hornbuckle announced MGM's sponsorship of the Springfield Falcons hockey team for the 2012-2013 season.

In August, MGM unveiled plans to develop an $800 million resort-style casino in the South End of Springfield, just blocks away from where the Falcons play at the MassMutual Center. MGM also donated $50,000 to the South End Community Center , which is currently under construction.

Besides MGM, four other companies are also vying for western Massachusetts’ only casino license; Ameristar, Penn National, Hard Rock and Mohegan Sun.
