SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - By all accounts, the MIX 93.1 Radiothon to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield was a huge success.

Mix 93.1 and WHYN News Talk 560 finished their marathon 27-hour broadcast from the Shriners Hospital Friday night at eight.

Many of the children helped by Shriners came on the radio to share their stories.

Children like Florence's Troy Cronin who lost his legs to meningitis 10 years ago. "When I survived, Shriners helped me get back on my feet, and learn how to walk and run. And they're a great group. I'm so lucky to have them."

Development Officer Karen Motyka at Shriners Hospital told 22news, "Regardless of a patient's ability to pay, we just really want to get the word out that anyone can come to Shriners Hospital. Our goal is to help as many kids as possible."

$87,500 raised through the radiothon supports Shriners Mission to help children with neuro-muscular conditions and muscular skeletal conditions.

This was their first radiothon, but organizers say they exceeded expectations, and are already making plans for next year.
