SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Local businesses had a chance to hear about potential benefits they might see from the construction of a casino resort in Palmer.

Executives from the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority spoke at a forum at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield Thursday morning.

Executives said that local businesses can benefit from having a casino in the area. “That was the message today, that Mohegan Sun has a commitment to buying locally which we do. We bought over $500 million in goods and services between Mohegan Sun and Pocono Downs,” Peter Schultz of Mohegan Sun said.

Wendell Mitchell of John C. Otto Printing in East Longmeadow told 22News that he has previous experience with Mohegan sun. “I've always done business with Mohegan Sun, and I think they have been fair. I think it's great for the small vendors around here,” Mitchell said.

About 100 people attended Thursday morning's forum.
