SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - And they're off, with two months until the general election, TV ads are going to multiply.
A total of 1.1 billion dollars is expected to be spent now that the party conventions are over. For some voters that's a lot of money going into the election.
It's very upsetting to me, I think that when you look at the economy, when you look at people not having jobs…. and to have that kind of money being spent I think is a travesty,” said Jim Borowski of North Adams.
But for others, it's all part of politics and the party campaigns need to spend if they want to win.
I'm not too worried about it because the money that's being spent on it is from fundraising, it wouldn't be spent otherwise anyways because it's most normally personal donations so it's not as if they're taking money that could be put toward different things for the country, “ said Matthew Roy of Chicopee.
The campaigns and independent groups will spend more on the air in the final eight weeks of the presidential contest than they did in the first five months. So those battleground states are going to see even more ads.
Another platform where the election is difficult to avoid is Twitter, where the president's speech at the DNC broke the record for number of political tweets per minute.
It happens every election and some are not looking forward to the barrage of ads but others are excited.
“I'm sick of seeing them now… it's just the beginning,” said Jim Borowski
“To me it just means that they care more about winning, they're more serious about the election,” said Matthew Roy.
