More house break-in's in Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The biggest concern in Westfield right now is that house break-in’s are happening during daytime, and suspects are getting away with whatever they can carry out of the house.

That’s why Westfield Police are asking for public’s help.

Since New Year's Day, Westfield police have received at least 7 reports of house break-in's. It’s an alarming trend for many parents in the area.

Andrea Freer of West Springfield told 22News “You try and give your kids the best place to live in, and it's starting to happen more and more.”

So far Westfield police arrested one person who may be responsible for break-in's in Westfield and West Springfield.

Westfield Police arrested Christopher Moll after receiving a call from a neighbor. That neighbor saw Moll trying to break into one of these houses on Devon Terrace, and Police Captain Michael McCabe told 22News that's exactly what all residents should do. Call the police immediately if they see any strangers in their neighborhoods.

Rich Couture of West Springfield said “I got a 2-year-old, and you know, she's our main priority. And anybody with kids would call and make sure that their home is safe and their neighbor's.”

Many residents said now they are even more careful about locking all doors and windows.

Emma Caballero of Westfield told 22News “Always lock the doors at night, especially. Even in the daytime, you never know. Somebody might walk in.”

Andy Darwick of Westfield said “It's a fact of life right now. You lock up your houses. This is the society that we live in, so things have changed in Westfield over the years.”

Police are now looking for a vehicle that may belong to Moll. They don’t know the make or the model, but they are asking residents to report any suspicious, unattended cars.
