CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's much quieter on West Street in downtown Chicopee Saturday. The police tape is gone but signs of the shooting spree remain.

In video from Friday’s standoff, you can see the police cruiser that was shot multiple times. 22News was here as the cruiser was being taken away, about 12 hours after the ordeal started.

You can also see the school bus that got caught in the crossfire.

You have to remember the time of day this happened, 7:45 on a Friday morning, people were heading to work and kids were trying to get to school.

As we were interviewing witnesses, it was clear these were tense moments for everyone in the area.

Desean Martinez from Chicopee was working at the Dunkin’ Donuts in the Shell station across the street when the shooting took place.  He told 22News about what he witnessed.

"He just, he just started shooting and then he started to aim towards the windows and I just saw him shooting recklessly at buses, anything that passed by, so it was really unreal," Martinez said.

Derek Fecke was in the Dunkin Donuts across the street during the shooting. He told 22News, “He looked extraordinarily agitated. He didn't yell anything. He didn't do anything, other than just open fire.”

Amy Daigneault, who lives on West Street, told 22News, “It's just a shock especially here because it's such a quiet neighborhood. It's just shocking.”

We are learning more about the suspect that was eventually found dead in this home, it's still unclear if he was shot by police or killed himself.

That was 41-year-old Carlos Laguer of Springfield who, according to police, was either an ex-husband or ex-boyfriend of the woman who lived in this home.

The woman and a little boy who lived in the home both got out safe, but according to Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonnette, the woman had a restraining order against Laguer so that provides some insight as to why this could have happened, however police are still conducting interviews so it's likely we'll know even more in the coming days.
