New England Public Radio revitalizing downtown building for new headquarters

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts' public radio stations are getting a home of their own in downtown Springfield.

Work began on Monday to convert the old Fuller Building at Main and Bridge Streets into the new home of New England Public Radio .

Until the $5.5 million project is completed, however, the two stations, WFCR-FM and WNNZ-AM, to continue to work out of WGBY-TV Channel 57’s studios on Hampden Street. Martin Miller, CEO of New England Public Radio, says that they need to have room of their own.

“For many years, New England Public Radio WFCR and all-news WNNZ has needed a large enough facility to really build a state of the art, technologically efficient place where we can do our work and create more programming,” Miller said.

Congressman Richard Neal (D-Springfield) noted that by renovating the Fuller Building downtown, New England Public Radio is retaining and revitalizing an important part of Springfield's history.
