CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Chicopee is now being protected by three new police officers.
Mayor Michael Bissonnette and Police Chief Thomas Charette held a swearing-in ceremony for the three new officers at City Hall on Tuesday morning.
One of the new officers, Jason Sousa, told 22News that he was “delighted” to be joining the department, but he understands that the job will be very difficult.
“Being a police officer definitely is going to be tough, especially with all the things going around. But, I was a Marine, so I’m up for the challenge, and I wanted to help people, so it seemed like a perfect fit to join the force,” Sousa said.
Sousa is a lifelong Chicopee resident, and said that he is looking forward to serving the people of his hometown.
