SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Police Department held a "pinning ceremony" on Friday morning, officially promoting one of their officers.

The ceremony took on extra meaning for Officer Daniel Reigner who was promoted to Sergeant.
His father, retired Detective John Reigner, had the honor of pinning on Daniel's badge.

“It's a great feeling, he pinned me when I graduated from the academy in 1997, and I was fortunate to spend his last three years of service working alongside him in the Crime Scene Unit,” the new sergeant said.

The newly-promoted Sgt. Daniel Reigner served in the Forensics Unit in the Detective Bureau for many years.
