SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - An eleven year old girl is recovering Monday night after getting shot waiting to buy sneakers .
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno told 22News he spoke with the girl’s mother Monday morning and she is expected to be okay.
The girl was shot Saturday morning in a Plaza off of Boston Road. She was in line to buy the new Air Jordan's. That's when a fight in the line started and someone fired a gun. Police believe the girl was caught in the crossfire.
Mayor Domenic Sarno told 22News, “Our police department will continue to hunt down these disrespectful animals. Even if you had the budget you cannot have a police officer, public safety officer at every corner of the street.”
Mayor Sarno says the girl is still in pain. He is most frustrated that no one is talking even though there were at least 40 people standing in line.
