Charges being reduced for Robert Larrivee

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - No charges are being pursued against a 30 year-old woman who was arrested with her brother inside a Springfield bar bathroom , in a case that has received nationwide attention.

The case against Florida oncology nurse Amanda Larrivee has been dismissed entirely, her attorney, Jack St. Clair, told 22News.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that on Sunday night both she and her brother, 38 year-old Robert Larrivee of West Springfield, were arrested on a larceny charge at Samuel’s Sports Bar at the Basketball Hall of Fame. Police had accused the two of trying to steal a television set from the ladies’ bathroom.

Delaney said that when questioned by police, the two said that they were just having sex in the bathroom.

St. Clair, who represents both siblings, says that that statement was made only by Robert Larrivee, and his sister immediately informed police they were brother and sister, and they were not having sex.

According to St. Clair, both Robert and Amanda Larrivee had been at a charity golf tournament during the day. They had gone to Samuel’s that night, where Robert was upset about a recent breakup with his girlfriend. St. Clair said that it upset Robert that Amanda did not harbor any animosity towards her brother’s ex.

When Amanda went into the ladies’ room, St. Clair says, Robert followed her and though she tried to calm him down, he took the TV off the wall. St. Clair told 22News that his client was just upset, and he wasn’t trying to steal it.

As such, while the case against Amanda was dropped entirely before her scheduled arraignment, the larceny charge against Robert is being reduced to destruction of personal property.

The story received attention from coast-to-coast, including in Florida, where Amanda Larrivee lives, and Newport, Rhode Island, where she attended Salve Regina College. He says that the family has been humiliated, especially considering Amanda Larrivee has been a “model citizen” who “doesn’t have a traffic ticket.”
