No snow on the ground in Springfield

Berkshire and Franklin Counties picked up 3-12"

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - While Berkshire and Franklin Counties woke up to anywhere from a few inches to a fresh foot of new snow Saturday morning, in the lower Pioneer Valley, it's nothing but brown grass and bare pavement.

While it's not quite beach and pool weather, there is no question that snow has been scarce since the freak Halloween Nor’easter!

For Chicopee's Dave Garatti, no snow on the ground means no slush between his toes on his morning walk.
“It's great! Keep it coming," said Dave Garatti.

Others feel that this January's brown ground is relief from last January's relentless snow.

"I am glad we're not having any snow. I don't really mind the cold, but we had enough snow from last year and with all the storms we've had, I think it's okay," said Anna Maria Wright of Springfield.

Not everyone is celebrating the low snow situation.

"It's been very nice. I agree we don't have to shovel and all that stuff; but if we get a lot cold weather we're going to get frozen pipes and all that. So I like snow for insulation," said Joann Turkel of Cheshire.

If you're not a snow lover, you'll enjoy this, our 22News Storm Team 7day forecast , which shows no big snow for the next week.

On the up side, temperatures will be cold enough most of the week for ski areas to make snow for those of us who don't mind a little slipping and sliding in the wintertime.
