Not long until spring is here

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - This winter we've had it all - record warmth, bone chilling cold and plenty of different types of precipitation.

Most of the time, snow has been the issue with snow banks piling up multiple feet high.

The February Nor’easter , one of the biggest snowstorms in Western Massachusetts history, has made up half of our winter snowfall so far.

Brian Payne of Springfield told 22News, "The thing of it is, I don't mind if it's a mild winter, but I really don't want a cold winter and no snow. I would rather have it just be snow."

For those who don't like winter, we have less than a month left of it to go.

On March 20th, at exactly 7:02 in the morning we'll begin spring and leave winter behind. A winter that some people wouldn't mind forgetting.

For William Gilmore, he can't wait to get back to playing basketball outside in springtime conditions, "This winter's been long enough. It's been cold enough too. I think spring should come. I'm excited to get out and play some basketball. There's been warm days and it got me excited for spring and then more snow comes," Explained Gilmore.

The wintry mix of snow and rain this weekend is something we would normally see more of in late winter and early spring, when the cold air isn't quite in place from top to bottom in our atmosphere.

Going through February and into March, we begin to have longer days and stronger sunshine which helps melt the snow.

By then, the winter of 2012-2013 may just be a distance memory.
