SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A man wanted by the FBI for a murder in Buffalo, New York was arrested in Springfield Friday morning.
According to a news release sent to 22News by State Police Media Relations, Esteban Ramos-Cruz was caught outside 31 Rutledge Street around 8:00 A.M.
Ramos-Cruz was charged with murder in aid of racketeering and other charges on April 27, 2011. Our Buffalo sister station WIVB-TV reports that he is one of four reputed gang members charged with the murder of 20 year-old Eric Morrow. Morrow was found shot to death on a Buffalo street in August of 2009.
The search for Ramos-Cruz gained widespread attention, including a segment on the program “America’s Most Wanted.”
In addition to the murder charge, Ramos-Cruz is also charged with use, carry, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and narcotics conspiracy.
The arrest was made by members of the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the State Police STOP Team, the State Police K-9 Unit, the U.S. Marshal Task Force, and Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Section.
