WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - On Tuesday morning, the Westfield community will pay a final tribute to Officer Jose Torres.
The Westfield policeman was accidentally killed last Thursday, when he was hit by a dump truck on Pontoosic Road during a construction detail.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. for Officer Torres at the Dever Auditorium in Parenzo Hall on Westfield State University's campus. Citizens and city workers have been formally invited to attend.
But be aware that starting at 9 a.m., Western Avenue will be closed to all traffic from Lloyd's Hill Road to Laura Drive. It will re-open after the service.
Also, as a way to honor Officer Torres, all non-emergency public services in the city will stop operation at 10 A. M. Flags have also been flying at half staff around the city, since the accident.
22News will be airing Tuesday's service LIVE on our sister station, WFXQ, and on our second digital stream, "The Cool TV"--which can be found on:
The service will also be streaming live on WWLP.com , and can be displayed on your mobile device as well.
