SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man who was facing eviction will get to stay in his home thanks to the "No One Leaves” organization.
Jeffery Solivan struggled to keep up with his mortgage after he lost his job and suffered some medical issues. "No One Leaves" protested his eviction Wednesday, because Solivan now has enough income to afford the payments at a lower rate.
Following the protest, Solivan learned Fannie Mae had cancelled the eviction. But before that good news came Wednesday, Solivan worried he'd have no place to go.
“It hurts a lot because I've got nowhere to go. I've got two cats. I don't want to give them to Dakin or a center. They're all I have. I guess the three of us will be sleeping outside in the cold,” said Solivan.
“He doesn't say he wants to stay for free. He wants to pay but make it affordable for him,” said Sellou Coloi, homeowner also saved by “No One Leaves”
Solivan will now work with the bank to figure out whether he'll pay rent or a smaller mortgage he can afford.
