PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - Palmer casino advocate Paul Burns believes MGM trails Mohegan Sun in the Western Massachusetts casino sweepstakes.

The Palmer town council member told 22News, Mohegan Sun opened its Palmer office three and a half years ago.

And study after study supports its casino plans near Exit 8 of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

“Let's not forget, Palmer's the only community in this area that's competing, that's actually approved a casino, and a casino referendum,” Burns said. “Springfield failed twice, that's got to be in the back of everyone's mind."

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission isn't expected to select the site and the casino company until 2014 at the earliest.
