Paper City reacts to Mayor's reversal

Paper City Development was working with Hard Rock International to bring a casino to Holyoke at Wyckoff Country Club.  At that point, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse said that he would not allow a casino to be built in Holyoke.  Now Morse has flip-flopped and is working to bring a casino to Mountain Park.

Below is a statement from Joseph Lashinger, managing partner of Paper City Development:

“We are just learning of Holyoke Mayor Morse’s new position on a destination resort casino development for the Paper City. We respected his opposition when we last met in February. We respect his decision to change his opinion now, perhaps after weighing the tax revenue and real jobs that a significant gaming development can bring to Holyoke.

When we met, we presented him with a world-renowned entertainment leader, Hard Rock International and a complete and comprehensive plan for a destination resort casino with a major hotel . We presented him also with civil engineering and a traffic plan – two of them in fact: one for immediate access and exit to I91 and the other to alleviate the traffic issues that already exist on 141 everyday without a casino at either Wyckoff Country Club or Mt. Park.

We are realize that this is the type of economic development that, after weighing the facts on job creation and new revenue for a community, a Mayor’s opinion might change. We are very interested in learning more about his new views on Monday and to working with him, the City Council and the people of Holyoke. Ultimately, we hope that this will still be a decision for the voters to decide.”
