WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The town of West Springfield honored its veterans with a parade Monday, followed by a solemn ceremony on the Town Common.

The parade stepped-off in the late morning from the St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church on Pine Street, and concluded at the War Memorial Monument at the Town Common for the solemn service.

Today's men and women in uniform paid homage to their comrades in arms and those who came before them.

“We are here to honor all of the servicemen that have gone before us and who even made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Air Force MSgt Michael Cuffelato.

Mike Sorcinelli of Feeding Hills told 22News that he wants to be sure that his young son will observe Veterans Day when he grows up. His family added to the occasion by providing food for everyone attending the West Springfield Veterans Day observance.

“My father started a non profit organization, Grateful Citizens for the Appreciation of Veterans, and every year we cook hot dogs and hamburgers and provide soup to show our appreciation for those who have served their country,” Sorcinelli said.

Hundreds came to participate in the ceremony on the Common to show their support as well as their appreciation to the men and women who have always protected our county.
