AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - The October 29th snowstorm forced most communities to postpone or cancel Halloween trick or treating, but there are still plenty of safety concerns over tree debris on the streets and sidewalks.

Monday night was Agawam's official Halloween. Piles of debris are still everywhere just waiting to get picked up.

22News has heard from some parents in Agawam, where concerned about sidewalks being blocked and kids having to walk in dark streets Monday night.

One viewer wrote to 22News to say she thought it should have been canceled altogether. We asked local residents whether they thought postponing the holiday was a good idea.

Joanne Fifield of Agawam said, "Yes it could be an issue, but as long as there's a grownup going with them, they don't have anything to worry about."

"I think it made a lot of sense, I think everybody's probably glad the kids weren't out on a night like that, and I think they're all pretty glad they get a chance to go out tonight," according to Mike Rooney of Agawam.

Trick or treaters had to be aware that visibility is reduced by tall piles of debris, especially around corners and driveways. Making sure your kids have flashlights and adult supervision. If you're driving in Agawam, take it slow and remember kids would be out after dark. And if you're handing out candy, be sure to turn your porch lights on and clear a path for trick or treaters.
