WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A construction project that begins Monday will narrow a part of Route 20 to two lanes for more than a year.

Angeliki Anamisis told 22News, “It's going to be a mess it's going to be very difficult especially in the morning to go work or do anything.  It's hard enough now even with now with the two lanes it’s very hard."

The construction will focus on increasing the clearance of the bridge over the railroad tracks that carries Route 20 near Charles Avenue.

Once this project is complete, CSX will be able to use double decker trains on the tracks.

Most drivers are focusing on the traffic on the road and beginning to figure out alternate routes.

The lane change is expected to be in place up until the end of 2013, but the entire project won't be finished until some time in 2014.
